Christmas Banner

This week's challenge at Sunny challenges was an easy one for me. Every year for the last few years I have made a new decoration for the home. Last year was a new wreath for the front door, the year before an advent calender and numerous decorations for the tree. This year I made a banner to go on the mantle above the fire.

I used the Stampin' Up! create a banner kit which comes with the background stencils, letter stencils, string and the canvas banner shapes. All it took from there was a lot of sponging and a bit of punching for the flowers.

Project Recipe
Ink: Cheery cobbler, old olive and gold encore
Accessories: create a banner kit and flower punches

So Quick and Easy

This card literally took 5 minutes to put together, would have been quicker but I smudged my sentiment and had to re-stamp! If you have to make a heap of cards for Christmas this is the way to go, just make each a little different by swapping out the patterned paper. This one is for Sunny Challenges who wish us to use baker's twine which made me think of tying up presents for Christmas.

Project Recipe
Stamp: Special Season
Card: Crumb cake and cherry cobbler
Ink: Cherry cobbler
Accessories: white baker's twine and season of style designer stack

Serene Silhouettes

This is one of my favourite stamps sets, even though I don't use it that often. I have used the colours from this week's Just Add Ink challenge.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Serene Silhouettes
Card: Tangerine tango, island indigo and whisper white
Ink: Island indigo and tangerine tango
Accessories: Venetian romance dsp, oval framelits, beautifully baroque embossing folder and island indigo ribbon (retired)

Special Season Christmas

I have combined the sketch challenge from Just Add Ink with the pool party challenge from Sunny challenges. I also used heat and stick powder with dazzling diamonds to give a lovely glimmer to the tree. Unfortunately it doesn't photo very well.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Special Season
Ink: Island indigo and versamark
Card: Island indigo, pool party and whisper white
accessories: tea lace doily, delicate doilies thinlit, heat and stick powder, dazzing diamonds, 2.5" circle punch  and pool party taffeta ribbon

Flower Shop Colour Challenge

I liked the sketch from last week's challenge at Sunny Challenges I decided to use it again for this week's Just Add Ink colour challenge. These are not my favourite colours to use and I would never have thought to put them together so I was rather pleased with the way it turned out.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Flower Shop, flowering flourishes and Blooming with kindness
Card: Crumb cake, raspberry ripple, perfect plum and whisper white
Ink: Raspberry ripple and perfect plum
Accessories: Pansy punch, raspberry ripple ribbon, chevron embossing folder and beautifully baroque embossing folder, self adhesive rhinestones

Hybrid Layout for Sunny Challenges

It is a sketch challenge this week at Sunny challenge and creations. Instead of the usual card I decided to show a scrapbook layout. Although a physical page, I have used My Digital Studio to create elements of it. The large doily was created in MDS by enlarging one of the stamps in the delicate doilies set and then using my electronic cutter to cut it out. The journal text box was also created in MDS and then printed at home.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Delicate Doilles
Card: tangerine tango, island indigo and whisper white
Ink: gold encore
Accessories: Various size scallop circle punches, venetian romance dsp, gold glimmer brad

The challenge this week at just Add Ink is add a bit of grunge to anything! These cards are great, so easy to do and lots of interest without a lot of embellishments, great for a teenage boy which is where this card is heading to. Isobel's boyfriend is having a birthday party this weekend, her first teenage boy/girl party. I'm only a little worried!

Project Recipe
Stamps: gorgeous grunge and grunge rock (retired)
Card: Bermuda bay, smoky slate and whisper white
Ink: smoky slate, bermuda bay, pacific point and crushed curry
Accessories: linen thread

I made this for a challenge on one of the many facebook craft groups I have joined. It is a 4x5 inch card which doubles as a gift card holder inside. You can see the extra flap on the inside which holds the gift card. I have used the masking technique on the inside for the flowers.

Christmas Printer Tray

A couple of weeks ago I joined the other demos in my group for a retreat at our Manager's house (Thank you Cathy for opening up your home to us all). One of the projects we started was this printer tray. About all I managed at the time was to cut out the base cards and write a few thoughts of what would go on them. But a full day of crafting was enough to get it finished today. I haven't stuck the base cards to the tray so I still might make some changes, but I think this is a good start!

The ladies at Sunny challenges want a male card this week. I always struggle with these, it seems most people do. I find it difficult to strike that balance between interesting without being over embellished and blingy. I have used a technique called emboss resist to create my background. I think the flash from the camera has bounced off the clear embossing as the card looks a lot darker in real life. I am going to keep this one for my husband Matt for Father's day as the sentiment is one I feel each and every day.

Project Recipe
Satmps: Fine feathers and Chalk talk
Card: pacific point, wild wasabi and whisper white
Ink: pacific point, marina mist, wild wasabi and versamark
Accessories: clear embossing powder, marina mist grosgrain ribbon, white bakers twine and large oval punch, white feathers

Hexagons are on trend in the paper craft world right now, so this sketch from Just Add Ink gave me the perfect opportunity to ink up my newest stamp set and matching hexagon punch. One thing I did realise when making this card is that I haven't got any current designer paper, so I made my own using markers and the air spritzer (which unfortunately is no longer available).

Project Recipe
Stamps: Six sided sampler and Itty bitty banners
Card: melon mambo, daffodil delight and whisper white
Ink: melon mambo, pear pizzaz, daffodil delight and island indigo
Accessories: gingham garden designer washi tape, melon mambo button, itty bitty framelits and hexagon punch

By the Sea

My first thought on seeing this colour combination from Just Add Ink was of the beach. Maybe because we live in a seaside town or because of the ink name coastal cabana. Either way I instantly reached for the By the seashore stamp set.

Project Recipe
Stamps: By the Seashore and Itty Bitty Banners
Card: Baked brown sugar, coastal cabana and very vanilla
Ink: Baked brown sugar and coastal cabana
Accessories: Stripes embossing folder (inked and then sandwich card, but not through the bigshot), itty bitty framelits and white bakers twine (squashed in the coastal cabana inkpad) and naturals designer buttons.

Less is Best

Less is best is definitely my thought when it comes to making a birthday card for my husband. He is definitely not one for fancy ribbon or any too elaborate, so this simple card is perfect for him. It looked a little too flat to start with so I just stamped a few extra images on separate card, cut then out and popped them on with a few dimensionals to give a bit more depth. The leaves are this week's challenge at Just Add Ink.

Project Recipe
Stamps: French foliage and Curly cute (both retiring)
Card: More mustard, riding hood red and river rock (all retiring)
Ink: more mustard, choc chip and riding hood red

Retiring Stamps and Colours

It is always an honour to be asked to be a guest designer, although a little scary too. This week's challenge at Sunny challenges is to use retiring products along with the sketch. This has been one of my all time favourite stamps sets that I will be sorry to see go. The colours are also retiring at the end of the month.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Elements of Style and curly cute
Card: Bravo burgundy, baja breeze and river rock
Ink: bravo burgundy and baja breeze
Accessories: Vintage wallpaper embossing folder (retiring) self adhesive pearls, labels die and watercolour pencils (retiring)

Men's card

Project Recipe
Stamps: The open Sea and Itty bitty banners
Ink: River rock and not quite navy
Card: River rock, not quite navy and riding hood red

Online Ordering

As you may be aware Stampin' Up! are now offering online ordering for its customers. What this means for you, my customers, is that you can now place your own orders at any time of the day or night. You will get notification of order confirmation and a shipping notice by email. And then your order is shipped straight to your door.

To make things a bit easier, I have set up a Demonstrator Business Website (DBWS) so that you can place your order through a link on that page. You will then not have to nominate a demonstrator with your order as it is already done. You also get Stamping Rewards (same as hostess benefits) for a qualifying order.

I have set up a link to my DBWS on this blog, right hand column under my photo. Make sure you check it out as it also has information about new promotions and specials.

Here is the link: http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/carolestedman/

For Mother's Day

The challenge this week at Sunny challenges is to make a feminine card using their sketch. This is the first of the Mother's day card I have made, so only one more to go. The flower sits right out on this card but they are so easy to make using the big shot dies and lots of scrunching up of the flowers.

Project Recipe

Ink: Primrose petals
Card: primrose petals, pink pirouette, summer starfruit and whisper white
Accessories: raspberry ripple ribbon, summer starfruit brad (also from pop up posies kit), oval and scallop oval punches, lattice die and fun flowers die.

For Matt...

This one is for my husband Matt, tomorrow is our 13th Wedding Anniversary.

It has been a while since I last posted, not because I haven't created anything. But we couldn't find our camera for about a month. Just when we were about to report it stolen, a friend let us know Matt had left it in  their car!

This card uses the sketch from sunny challenges along with their instruction to use a background stamp.

Project Recipe
Stamps: EnFrancais, Memorable moments and Serene silhouettes
Card: basic black, very vanilla, island indigo and soft suede
Ink: Sahara sand, black stazon, soft suede and versamark

Digital Card

Something a little different for me. This card was all made on the computer and then printed using a Stampin' Up! contents disc called Comfort cafe. It has 18 different dsp patterns, a stamp set and embellishments that you can put together using a number of different photo editing software. I have used Photoshop because that is what i have, but you could you free programs such as GIMP and paint.net.

This first one took a while but with a bit of practice I would get quicker. And the great thing is you save the card on your computer and can print as many as you need. How easy is that going to make Christmas!! My next disc will be the Sale a bration disc, which you can get for free and includes all the stamps and papers from the Sale a bration catalogue!!

Crafters Anonymous Mini Challenge

It is great to be back in my craft room after so long away. I have been busy with Christmas and school holidays as well as trying to get my final asssignments of the year done. And it is even better not to be making Christmas cards!!

Late last year I joined an online craft forum called Crafters Anonymous. This group is open to all crafters, not just card makers or SU! Demonstrators. They have a number of different groups you can join depending on your crafting preferences. One of the groups I joined is for challenges and this month the challenge is for specific colours.

Project Recipe
Stamps: Field flowers and Flowering flourishes
Card: Sahara sand, bashful blue, real red and whisper white
Ink: Gumball green and real red
